One of the biggest killers of batteries is dramatic temperature changes. When it gets cold you must increase the charge voltage to compensate for the change in weather.

People replace their batteries far too often whereas in reality, there is usually nothing wrong with the battery. It's just undercharged as they haven't adapted the voltage to the changing temperature.

Also, repeatedly undercharging your batteries can lead to poor performance and can drastically reduce the overall lifespan of the battery.
