Method and precision
Conversions use a factor of 1.3410220895950278 horsepower (hp) per kilowatt, applied exactly and rounded to 1 decimal places for display only. The converter above uses the unrounded factor.
What to watch for
There are two horsepower units in circulation. Mechanical (imperial) horsepower is 1.3410 per kilowatt; metric horsepower, written PS or CV, is 1.3596 per kilowatt. They differ by about 1.4 per cent, which is why the same engine is quoted at slightly different figures in different markets. A European PS number is not an error, it is a different unit.
