The Teng Tools NS02 takes off nuts that a wrench or socket can no longer shift. When a nut is stripped, rusted solid, seized or damaged, splitting it is faster than fighting it, and it keeps heat away from paint, seals, brake lines and wiring the way a grinder or a torch cannot.

Two splitters are supplied. The smaller covers 5-20mm (0.20-0.79 in), the larger 14-27mm (0.55-1.06 in), so between them the set spans 5-27mm (0.20-1.06 in), measured across the flats. The ranges overlap between 14 and 20mm, which means a nut at the join can be taken with either tool, whichever reaches the space better.

In use, slide the body over the nut so the blade sits square against one of the flats, then tighten the threaded blade with a wrench. The blade drives into the flat and parts the nut. The nut is split rather than turned, which is why the stud comes through intact and can be reused. On a particularly stubborn nut, reposition the splitter on another flat and take a second cut.

It earns its place wherever a fastener has seen enough salt, weather or heat that the corners have gone and a socket simply spins on it.
