Its tapered, fluted profile digs into the body of a damaged or broken fastener and converts your counter-clockwise turning force into a progressively tighter grip, backing the fastener out without wrecking the parent threads. To use it, drill a centered pilot hole into the damaged fastener, tap the tapered end into the hole, then turn counter-clockwise with a tap wrench or T-handle. The deeper the flutes bite, the harder they hold, so even heavily corroded or heat-seized hardware can be removed with steady, controlled effort. This is a single tool, not a kit.
