The Teng Tools 980086 is a hex socket adaptor: a 5/16 inch hex at one end and a 3/8 inch square male drive at the other. Teng Tools lists it as a 3/8 inch drive impact bit adaptor of the hex coupler type.
The 5/16 inch hex end goes into a driver or holder that takes 5/16 inch hex. The 3/8 inch square end then takes any 3/8 inch drive socket, held by a ball detent on the male end that securely grips the socket.
It is made from Cr-V 6150 chrome vanadium steel with a satin finish for a better grip when handling sockets. The same adaptor is supplied in the Teng Tools TEDSD14, ID515, TTID20 and ID515BIT sets, so it also serves as the replacement piece for any of them.
It comes with a metal socket clip for use with a socket rail and weighs 20 g (0.7 oz).
What you get: one 5/16 inch hex to 3/8 inch square male adaptor with a metal socket clip. Driver, bit holder and sockets are not included.
- One end is a 5/16 inch hex shank, the other a 3/8 inch square male drive. Fit the hex end into a driver or holder that takes 5/16 inch hex and it turns that tool into a 3/8 inch drive for sockets. Teng Tools names it an impact bit adaptor and lists it as a hex coupler type.
- A ball detent on the male end securely grips the socket, so a 3/8 inch drive socket clicks on and stays on while you move it to the fastener and back. Pull the socket straight off by hand to change size, then push the next one on until the ball engages in it.
- Made from Cr-V 6150 chrome vanadium steel. The satin finish gives a better grip when handling sockets, which helps when you change sockets often during a job. It is a compact part that works as a hex to socket adapter wherever the tool in your hand takes 5/16 inch hex.
- The same adaptor is supplied in the Teng Tools TEDSD14, ID515, TTID20 and ID515BIT sets, so this single piece replaces one that has gone missing from any of them. It is the hex to square adapter that lets one 5/16 inch hex tool drive 3/8 inch sockets as well.
- Supplied with a metal socket clip for use with a socket rail, so it hangs beside the 3/8 inch drive sockets it serves and does not disappear into the bottom of a drawer. It weighs 20 g (0.7 oz). The driver or bit holder and the sockets are not included with this adaptor.
