Are Teng Tools Any Good? An Honest Answer

Somebody typing that question is usually deciding whether to trust a few thousand dollars to a brand they have not used. So here is a straight answer, including the parts that do not flatter us.

The short answer

Teng Tools is a professional hand tool brand founded in Sweden in 1985, designed in Sweden, manufactured in Taiwan, sold in more than 30 countries, with a range of over 3,000 items. In the United States we operate from our own warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas. The tools meet or exceed ISO and DIN standards, and the hand tools carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

If you are comparing us against Snap-on, Matco, Mac Tools or Cornwell, we are substantially cheaper and we publish every price. If you are comparing us against GearWrench, Husky, Kobalt or BOXO on a loose socket set, we are usually dearer. Both of those are true at the same time and which one matters depends on what you are buying.

What we are genuinely good at

  • Complete, loaded cabinets. A PRO35 arrives with the tools already cut into foam in the order you work. Kits run from 233 to 1,295 pieces. This is the thing we do better than most of the market, and our tools per dollar at that level beat every direct competitor we have measured.
  • Tool control that scales. Three tiers: foam for visual control, KIT for a QR tracked digital record with calibration dates and exportable audits, and Smart Box for RFID access with sensing built into the foam so every tool movement carries a user, a date and a time. The same kit moves up a tier without rebuying the tools.
  • Warranty scope. Lifetime against manufacturing defects covering the tools, the storage and the foam. No receipt, honoured wherever you bought it, and it transfers with the tool if you sell the box. Several rivals cover hand tools for life but give storage three years, demand a receipt, or void it if you bought from the wrong seller.
  • Torque instruments. Conform to ISO 6789, individually tested, and supplied with a Declaration of Conformance in the box rather than sold separately.

What we are not

  • We are not the cheapest way to buy tools. On individual hand tool sets, brands with retail scale will usually undercut us. If the lowest price on a socket set is what you need, buy the socket set from them.
  • We are not the cheapest way into a loaded box. BOXO start around $1,400. Our cheapest loaded roller cabinet is $2,639.99.
  • We do not come to you. There is no van, no Thursday visit, no dealer who swaps a broken ratchet out of stock on the spot. We ship from Texas.
  • We do not cover lost tools. Our warranty covers manufacturing defects, not loss. A couple of competitors offer lost tool cover and we do not.
  • We do not calibrate torque wrenches. They ship conforming to ISO 6789 with a Declaration of Conformance, but periodic recertification needs a local calibration house.
  • We are not made in the USA. Designed in Sweden, made in Taiwan. So are most professional hand tools in this price class, but if US manufacture is a requirement, we are not it.

Who tends to buy from us

Working technicians buying a complete cabinet rather than building one up. Shops and fleets that want one published price rather than per technician deals. Aerospace, defense, motorsport and manufacturing operations that need tool accountability they can evidence. And people who would rather see the number on the page than have a conversation about it.

What it actually costs

Teng PRO35 kit Pieces Price Per piece
53" Monster Stack, 19 drawer 1,295 $11,439.99 $8.83
37" workstation 1,008 $5,999.99 $5.95
26" stack case, 16 drawer 753 $4,949.99 $6.57
26" roller cabinet 628 $2,639.99 $4.20

Those prices are on the site, the same for one box or for twelve, and they are the same prices in this paragraph as at checkout.

Common questions

Where are Teng Tools made? Designed in Sweden, manufactured in Taiwan. The company was founded in 1985.

Is the lifetime warranty real? It covers manufacturing defects on hand tools and storage for the life of the tool. Normal wear and misuse are not covered, and bits and socket bits are consumables. You claim with a photo and the part number stamped on the tool.

Are they as good as Snap-on? Different proposition. Snap-on sell through a dealer on a route with financing and on the spot service, and price accordingly. We sell a comparable class of loaded cabinet at a published price you pay once. Neither answer is wrong.

How long has Teng been in the USA? Since 2017, operating from Fort Worth, Texas.
