Teng Tools vs Tekton Compared (2026)

The short version: Tekton are a well-run family business in Grand Rapids with a warranty that is arguably cleaner than ours and a following they have earned. We are not going to pretend otherwise. There is exactly one structural difference and it decides most of these comparisons: Tekton do not sell a loaded cabinet. At any price.

You buy their cabinet empty, then build the kit yourself

Tekton's cabinets sit in a separate Organization category from their hand tools, and tops are sold separately as accessories. There is no Tekton equivalent of a PRO35 arriving with the tools already in it.

Tekton's own March 2025 catalogue lists their 7 drawer tool cabinets at $2,850 and $3,450, and the 11 drawer 40/60 split bank at $3,950. Those are cabinets only. The same page sells the top separately (painted steel $245 to $375, hardwood $345 to $450, stainless $390 to $615) and the partitions, subdividers, organizer trays and bins separately again. Our 37 inch PRO35 arrives holding 1,008 tools for $5,999.99, with the top on it and the foam already cut.

So the real comparison is not cabinet against cabinet. It is a finished kit against a cabinet plus however long it takes you to choose, buy and lay out a thousand tools. Some people enjoy that. If you are one of them, Tekton is a good place to do it.

Figures read from Tekton's own catalogue PDF (media.tekton.com, March 2025 edition) on 20 September 2026: part numbers OCL33100/OCL33200 at $2,850, OCL43100/OCL43200 at $3,450, OCL43102/OCL43202 at $3,950. Tekton operates MAP-style pricing and some retailers hide the price until checkout, and this is a dated catalogue, so re-check before deciding.

Where Tekton is the better call, and it is more than you would expect

  • Their warranty sentence is braver than ours. "No time limits, no receipts, and shipping on us", and their FAQ says plainly they do not need the tool back. We ask for a part number and a photo. Both work; theirs reads better.
  • Per-product country of origin. Tekton publish origin SKU by SKU in the specifications. We say designed in Sweden, made in Taiwan across the brand. Theirs is more transparent and we will not imply otherwise.
  • 10% back in rewards on every purchase, permanently. We have no standing loyalty equivalent.
  • Published drawer test methodology — 400 lb per drawer at full extension, tested to 130,000 cycles at 200 lb. That is real engineering disclosure.
  • Reputation. Tekton have a genuine following among mechanics and it is not marketing. Brand affection counts for something.

Where we are the better call

  • A finished cabinet exists. One line, one price, tools in foam, in the order you work. With Tekton that is a project.
  • A warranty that transfers. Ours is attached to the tool rather than to whoever bought it first, so it goes with the box if you sell it. Note on torque: neither of us is free here. Tekton charge $50 to $75 per wrench to recertify, and we do not run a calibration service at all.
  • Reach. Tekton ship and warranty US and Canada only, with limited support elsewhere, and do not accept cabinet returns from Canada. We run in more than 30 countries. Irrelevant if you are one technician in Texas; relevant if you are speccing tooling for a fleet or a multi-site operation.
  • Tool control tiers. Foam, then QR-tracked digital audit, then RFID Smart Box, on the same kits without rebuying tools.

Common questions

Are Tekton tools good? Yes. This is not a page arguing they are not. They are a family-owned Michigan company with about 81% of their range made in Taiwan, the same country ours are made in, and a strong reputation.

Who has the better warranty? Honestly, it is close. Both of us take a photo instead of the tool, neither asks for a receipt, and both honour it wherever you bought it. Ours adds that it transfers with the tool to a new owner. Neither of us calibrates torque wrenches for free: theirs is a paid recertification service, and we do not offer calibration at all.

Can I buy a Tekton cabinet with the tools in it? No. That is the point of this page, and it is the one thing they cannot do.
